Jenna & James | Prospect Park Engagement Session | Brooklyn, NY

James proposed to Jenna in February, after six years of dating. Following a busy fall season in their respective careers, the pair had time to finally think about scheduling an engagement session when Jenna found my work on Instagram. We hit it off over the phone. She mentioned that they are a Taurus and an Aries, love color, and are always laughing together.

The couple knew they wanted beautiful, autumnal foliage, as well as their candid and casual style, to be reflected in their photos. Being mid-November, the leaves were already rapidly falling, but we were lucky to get a session in on one of the very last weekends with lush, colorful trees! Would you believe NYC got hit with six inches of snow two days prior?! Thankfully, it melted away just in time.

It was so much fun wandering around Prospect Park and playing in the leaves with these two! Congratulations on your engagement and future together, Jenna & James!

Jennifer & Manny | Coney Island Engagement Session | Brooklyn, NY

One morning, in Texas, Jennifer was scrolling Offbeat Bride when she happened upon a wedding I had photographed being featured that day. She and her new fiancé, Manny, had a trip to NYC planned and thought an engagement session in the city could be fun. When Jennifer reached out and told me they liked street art and bagels (two of my very favorite things), I knew we'd be friends.

Their session ended up being on one of the hottest days of the summer during a week filled with thunderstorms. We got lucky with a lot sunshine! In order to beat the heat, we took a stroll down the pier to feel the breeze and obviously had to stop for ice cream! I loved their relaxed vibe, Jen's colorful engagement ring, and the way they had each other laughing the entire time.

Congrats to this super fun, very happy couple!

2018 Mermaid Parade | Coney Island | Brooklyn, NY

One of my favorite things to do at the start of summer in NYC every year is attend the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. It's a magical, sparkly, colorful kick-off to the summer season that celebrates art, inclusivity, and creativity, combining all my favorite things in life.

According to Coney Island USA's website, "The MERMAID PARADE specifically was founded in 1983 with 3 goals: it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune ; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as 'entertainment'; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public."

Thomasin & Alex | Knitting Factory Wedding | Brooklyn, NY

One of the first details I knew about Thomasin & Alex’s wedding was the reception was to be held at The Knitting Factory, a Brooklyn concert venue, and I just knew I had to be part of something so cool. Both the bride and groom are musically gifted; choosing a venue that reflects them so well is just the kind of thing that makes my couples so unique.

It was an unseasonably warm day in October, filled with so much sunshine and even more love. We started out with portraits in Brooklyn Bridge Park before trolleying over to the gorgeous Plymouth Church. The lovely ceremony included both the bride’s minister parents giving special readings, and a very memorable performance by Cantori New York, a choir the bride is a member of, accompanied by the majestic Aeolian-Skinner organ.

Once arriving to The Knitting Factory, there were almost as many musical acts as there were wedding guests! It was so important to the bride and groom to showcase their talented friends and to have every room filled with music and laughter. My personal favorite performance of the night was when the bride and groom snuck away for a quick costume change for a duet of “Happy Together” by The Turtles. It was the perfect way to kick off the party!

Congratulations Thomasin & Alex!
